Introduction : | BK polyoma virus (BKV) is a non-enveloped DNA virus first discovered in the urine of a kidney transplant recipient in 1971. BK is a circular, double-stranded DNA virus from the polyomavirus family, which includes JC virus and SV40. BKV infection is generally asymptomatic but is typically associated with patients who have had a kidney transplantc. BKV is highly tumorigenic in newborn hamsters and mice, inducing several different types of tumors. |
